Dairy House Farm

Join us for a day of giant hogweed digging on Thursday 19th March in Ashley, Cheshire.

Giant hogweed is an invasive non-native species that grows up to 4m tall with large leaves that shade out native species. One plant can turn into dozens in a couple of years and it can quickly take over an area, especially on the damp and sandy banks of the River Bollin. The sap of the plant is very dangerous, leaving severe blisters when it comes into contact with the skin so it is important we tackle it early in its growing season before it gets too tall.

As always, we will provide all equipment, but feel free to bring along your favourite spade and pair of gloves. Please make sure that wear clothes that are suitable for the weather and that cover your arms and legs, along with a pair of wellies. We'll provide hot drinks and biscuits but you'll have to bring along lunch and water.

Apologies to anyone who wanted to attend this event but we've had to cancel the session in the interest of safety.
