Description

Join us at Tytherington Wood, near Riverside Park in Macclesfield to help us tackle Rhododendron, a non-native invasive species!

We will be working in partnership with the Bollin Valley Partnership Rangers at Tytherington Wood (near Riverside Park, Macclesfield) to remove the non-native invasive species Rhododendron.

Rhododendron can grow to 5 meters tall and forms dense thickets, shading out native plants, preventing regeneration of trees in woods and supressing ground vegetation. It is poisonous to livestock and cannot be controlled by grazing. It is host to the disease organisms Phytophthora ramorum and P. kernoviae, which attack oak and beech.

This work party will run from 9:30am-3pm.

Meeting point: Roadside parking, Dorchester Way, Tytherington, Macclesfield, just south of Walton Heath Drive, SK10 2UG (SJ910757)

Bring lunch and your own work gloves if you have them, and please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Long trousers and sleeves are recommended!

The session is outdoors so make sure you have waterproofs and sun protection as needed. Please also make sure you bring enough water and food to keep you going throughout the day.
